In the developing centuries of the United States, kitchens consisted of a mere fireplace in the corner of a home. Life and technology was minimal but with the invention of modern appliances, kitchens demand- ed more space and attention. Industrialization in the late 1700s ushered in iron stoves and urbanization in the late 1800s created a demand for organized utilities introducing gas, and eventually, electricity to homes across America. As the kitchen morphed into an independent room with appliances and in wealthier households, servants, it also became the sleeping quarters. It was a work space for food preparation, storage, and other cleaning duties and neither the guests nor homeowners traditionally spent time there. Now, whether you employ a private chef, or revel in the satisfaction of cooking a meal, people instinc- tively congregate to the kitchen and it has developed into more of an entertainment arena than a work space. With social and technological advancements, the func- tion of a kitchen has changed immensely. While still intended for food preparation and storage, it’s also the center of most homes and because the purpose has changed, so too has the form. Now we want our kitch- ens to be just as stylish and architectural as the rest of the house. They are no longer utilitarian; kitch- ens should be a place for relaxation, entertainment, and decadent meal creations. This is a luxury kitchen. Which specific aspects compose a luxury kitchen is debatable. Because kitchens are functional and therefore personal based on your requirments, a luxury kitchen can be any combination of elevated styles, materials, and appliances. This is one of the most used rooms in the house, so the environment depends on your daily needs. Luxury kitchens don’t need to be ostentatious; it could mean a few fabulous appliances, an extra seat- ing area – whatever elevates the kitchen from a purely functional work space to an area in the house where you want to spend quality time and welcome guests.
