Eovino & Associates, Inc. ~ Encompassing over half the upstairs floor space, this master suite was designed with two main goals - capture the world class beachfront view of Kailua bay and provide a space of relaxation and privacy through elegant design. Next to the master bedroom sit separate “his” and “hers” master baths and a grand walk-in closet. The larger “hers” bath has unobstructed beachfront views through a ten foot wide fixed window located over the jacuzzi tub. From the master bedroom and “hers” bath impec- cable views of the sweeping beachfront are offered. The hallway takes you to the grand master closet, larger than most bedrooms found in Hawaiian homes, and the second washer/dryer unit, specially designed for the master suite occupants. Two separate baths were designed specifically to the tastes of distinguished women and men. The woman’s bath has a jacuzzi tub and a walk-in shower along with the spacious granite countertop and ample vanity space. The man’s bath has a more masculine touch with full-body shower heads and an overhead rain shower. Because the closest houses your belongings and is designed to be organized, it should fit the style in which you do so - whether that’s with shelves, rotating closet bars, baskets, hooks, drawers or bins! Employ what makes the most sense to store or display your beloved items. Ensure that age and the elements won’t weather your clothing with exquisitely crafted shelving and drawers made of the finest solid woods. Consider a grand closet like the one featured in the Kerr Michaels Design Kailua Beach Esatate. This was designed with a his and hers master closet with a stunning double door entry. Seating areas are always a relaxing touch both behind and in front of closet doors. They are perfect for company or are functional spaces for dressing. Including comfortable couches or an eclectic mix of furniture makes the bedroom space more inviting to spend time in when you’re not sleeping. It can turn your bedroom into a mid-day social spot or simply provide another location to unwind with a page-turner. Built-in furniture is one of the ultimate inclusions in a custom bedroom because they are semi-permanent features and reflective of the items that you admire and want to display. On the other hand, built-ins provide a great method to save space or hide electron- ics while they aren’t in use. Ultimately, decor is going to seal your custom deal. By using the finest and your favorite materials, colors, fabrics, and artwork, the space becomes uniquely yours. Skip major home stores and buy vintage artwork, handmade linens, and locally crafted furniture. Whether your bedroom is a space used only for sleeping, for relaxing the weekend away, or a place you never want to leave, a custom bed should show clear signs of you and what you love. Baths offer another level of luxury; even when a bath is custom most everyone will appreciate the special features - regardless of interest in colors or style. Jeffrey T. Long, AIA, Principal at Long & Associates Architects has found in his years of design- ing homes, that the bathroom is an area that people often want customized. “They tend to be more expensive areas per square foot,” said Long. “It really requires a lot of attention to detail.” There are a variety of bathing and soaking options. Jacuzzi tubs are perfection for those who desire a personal hot tub. Free standing basin tubs come in a variety of sizes, shapes, and materials and can be a statement piece for an otherwise simple Hawaii Kai Custom Stone, Inc. ~ Completed in November 2009, this bath is a stunning marble creation. Dressed from floor to ceiling in White Carerra Marble Slabs found only in a quarry in Italy, this bath is an excellent example of Hawaii Kai Custom Stone’s fine craftsman- ship. Using an eight foot cut and fabricated sheet, which makes it very difficult to install, they used a mitered edge finish for a seamless look. Additionally, the window frame is cut out of one single piece of slab - an incredible feat unto itself. (See Page 48)
