Pacific Luxury Living 30 | Featured Properties Long & Associates Architects ~ Making Ecoluxury their priority, Long & Associates Architects produced both of these fabulous kitchen designs. (See Page 40) Alligator House (See above): What makes a kitchen fabulous isn’t always top of the line appliances and plenty of space; sometimes it is the story. The most notable feature of the Alligator House Kitchen is the stunning reclaimed monkey pod island countertop, a green design feature. This focus piece was collected from a local tree removal service which cuts down ailing trees and then cuts and dries massive slabs of wood for a revitalized end use. The raw materials are locally grown and harvested and the tree-trimming waste becomes a one-of-a-kind slab. The countertop is supported by another local resource, an ohia wood log. The back feature wall is accented with reclaimed bricks which likely reveal another story. This unique kitchen also features brand new additions. There’s a Subzero wine fridge and countertop beer tap for entertaining, teak flooring, and pocketing doors disappear into the wall opening onto the oceanfront lanai. Luxury Contempo (See right & left): The sleek, modern design of this LEED executive kitchen is full of high contrast and juxtaposing textures. Dark, richly finished bamboo flooring pops against the clean white and chocolate accent walls. Beyond visuals, this design is also high on efficiency. A low-VOC paint was selected for the walls as well as renewable cedar to accent the soffits. All the appliances are Energy Star rated to improve efficiency and the power that is consumed by the home is offset by a 20-Panel Photovoltaic system on the roof, generating approximately 4.6 kilowatts per hour. To reduce the use of plastic bottles, a dedicated filtered water faucet is installed at the main sink. While it is environmentally friendly and efficient, the kitchen is not short on luxury. The contemporary design is accented by rich details such as natural lapis lazuli stone countertops and tex- tured bubble glass. The adjacent dining area has cream-colored leather seating. The custom cherry cabinetry, crafted from Sapele wood, has ample storage, and a dedicated pantry.
