Hawaii Kai Custom Stone ~ The Harriman residence underwent a complete remodel in April 2009, which included a renovation of the kitchen. With a spacious island in the center of the room, there was a great deal of surface area to cover. Hawaii Kai Custom Stone used Bianco Romano granite from Brazil to enhance the countertops, island, and backsplash; not a small feat as this project required a total of ten slabs of granite. (See Page 42) Barker Kappelle Construction, LLC ~ Finished in October 2009, the goal for this kitchen design was to create an open space for homeowners who love to entertain. The configuration allows for multiple workstations and walkways which include a separate entertainment bar that hosts a beverage refrigerator, wine cooler and dual recycling bins. The cooking island is equipped with its own prep sink, an induction cook top and a breakfast bar. The two tone quartz countertops were chosen to compliment both the paint and African mahogany and mango cabinetry. The ceiling was vaulted within the existing roof lines adding height while a ventilating skylight brings in the natural light. The functionality of this kitchen goes beyond cooking with an under counter washer and dryer. This kitchen was balanced for continuity with the adjacent rooms and opens out to the lanai. The porcelain tile was inlaid and bordered by a marbau wood floor to give the kitchen a more defined space while adding durability. Through careful design and execution, this island style Kailua kitchen welcomes friends and family. (See Page 44) embedded flat panel televisions are just a taste of the possible electronic luxuries. Lighting can encourage a sophisticated ambiance. LED or OLED lighting is the latest and greatest in energy efficiency while dimmers help set the desired mood. For direct exposure to the sun and elements, an outdoor kitchen is simply perfect. If you already have a spacious lanai then you have the foundation. Ideal for people who love to entertain, an outdoor kitchen expands your social space while allowing for even more time to enjoy the exquisite weather. This space can include a barbecue, fire pit, wood-fired brick oven and ideally a sink and storage. Of course it is important to consider the wear and tear of the elements. Remember to choose outdoor materials when selecting appliances, furniture, and fabrics. If it is ever time to put your luxury home on the market, consider that kitchens are arguably one of the biggest selling points. A buyer’s attraction will likely increase with stunning appliances, top of the line finishes, and contemporary décor. Ultimately, no matter which lavish aspects this room boasts, a luxury kitchen simply includes everything to make daily life effortless in the most stylish fashion.
