The Maui Cookie Lady Company is new and growing quickly here on the island of Maui. It started as a fundraiser for the nurses who helped Mitzi Toro’s dad at Maui Memorial Hospital when he passed away in May of 2012. To honor him and thank the hard working nurses, Mitzi started selling cookies once a month at theWailuku Town Party and committed to donate those funds for four months. On the last month, a regular customer asked if she was coming back and although she had never intended it to become a business, Mitzi came back and took the cookie concept to the next level! As an elementary school teacher, Mitzi Toro did not have a marketing or culinary background; she just loved cookies and had been baking her original recipe for over twenty years. She believes that what sets Maui Cookie Lady cookies apart is the use of high-end ingredients like chocolates from Germany, France, and Belgium, and specialty flour shipped in from South San Francisco. She is also proud to incorporate local products such as RawMaui Brand Sugar, Molokai Sea Salt, and macadamia nuts that are grown and harvested on the island. With her passion and creativity in each and every batch, The Maui Cookie Lady believes that there is“no better feeling then handing someone a giant, 7-ounce, homemade, beautiful artisan cookie and watching their face light up.” In two short years, distribution and sales have grown in leaps and bounds.
